Art Therapy.
Art therapy is more than making art — it's about finding your voice, processing your experiences, and rediscovering yourself. You're invited to create, explore, and heal in a safe and nurturing space.
Let the creative process speak.
Sometimes the feelings we carry are too heavy, too complicated, or too tender to put into language. Individual art therapy offers a different kind of space — one where you don't have to explain yourself perfectly to begin healing.
Through the process of making art together, we slow down, explore what's beneath the surface, and gently move toward greater clarity, relief, and self-understanding. This is not about creating something beautiful. It's about creating something honest.
Sessions are available in-person in Dallas, Texas, and virtually for residents of Texas, Illinois, and Idaho.
What Sessions Look Like
Each session is one-on-one and tailored entirely to you. There is no agenda you have to arrive with and no performance expected. Sessions are guided by your needs, your pace, and what feels right for you in that moment. All materials are provided.
Art-making is at the center of every session — not as homework or a task, but as a living conversation between you and what you're carrying. Alongside the creative process, we talk, reflect, and explore what emerges. As a Registered Art Therapist (ATR), Essence is trained to hold both the clinical and creative dimensions of your experience with equal care.
Why Art Therapy
Talk therapy is powerful — and for many people, it's not the whole picture. When we engage in art-making, we access parts of ourselves and brain that words alone don't always reach. The creative process can surface emotions, patterns, and insights that might stay hidden in a purely verbal conversation.
Art therapy is also grounding. The act of making something — choosing colors, working with your hands, putting something on paper — anchors you in the present moment in a way that is both calming and clarifying.
Who This Is For
Individual art therapy at Aura Art Space is designed for adults who are:
Navigating anxiety, worry, or persistent stress that feels hard to shake
Living with depression or a low, heavy sense of disconnection
Moving through a major life transition — a loss, a relationship change, a career shift, or an identity shift
Feeling emotionally stuck and unsure where to start
Curious about therapy but hesitant about traditional talk-only approaches
If you've ever felt like something is off but struggled to find the words for it, art therapy may be exactly the space you've been looking for.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Not at all. Most clients have little to no art background, and that is completely welcome here. The focus is never on skill or the final product — it's on the process of making and what that process opens up for you.
-
If you're joining virtually, Essence will let you know ahead of your first session what simple materials to have on hand. Most are everyday items you likely already have at home — nothing specialized or expensive is required.
-
In traditional talk therapy, conversation is the primary tool. In art therapy, art-making is woven into the session as an additional pathway for expression and insight. You still talk, reflect, and process — the creative process simply adds another layer that many people find more freeing and less pressured than words alone.
-
That's completely normal, and it's Essence's job to guide you. You will never be handed a blank canvas and left alone with it. Every session is facilitated with care and intention.
