Art Therapy for Early-Onset Alzheimer's & Memory Changes
A gentle, creative space designed for individuals in the early stages of memory change — where expression, dignity, and connection remain at the center.
A diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer's or mild cognitive impairment changes many things — but it does not change your capacity to feel, to create, and to be deeply known by another person.
Art therapy offers a space that honors exactly who you are right now.

What Is Art Therapy for Memory Changes?
Art therapy for individuals experiencing early-onset Alzheimer's or mild cognitive impairment is a one-on-one, clinically guided approach that uses creative expression as a tool for emotional wellbeing, cognitive engagement, and meaningful connection.
Unlike activities that feel like exercises or tests, art therapy is process-driven. There are no right answers, no performance expectations, and no pressure to produce something perfect. The focus is entirely on the experience of making — and what that experience opens up for you.
Sessions are facilitated by Essence Jackson-Jones, a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) and Registered Art Therapist (ATR) with specialized training in both memory care and the therapeutic use of creative arts.
Who This Is For
This service is designed for adults who:
Have received an early-onset Alzheimer's diagnosis and are still living with a strong degree of independence

Are looking for meaningful engagement that goes beyond cognitive exercises or memory games

What Sessions Look Like
Each session is one-on-one, unhurried, and built entirely around the individual. Essence takes time to understand each client's preferences, strengths, and comfort level before and throughout the therapeutic process.
During sessions, art-making serves as the primary vehicle for expression — whether that's working with paint, collage, drawing, or other accessible materials. Essence guides the process with warmth and patience, following the client's lead and creating an environment that feels safe, familiar, and free of pressure.
Over time, the consistency of weekly sessions creates a rhythm that many clients find grounding and stabilizing — something to look forward to, and a space that reliably feels like their own.
Sessions are available in-person in Dallas, TX and virtually for clients in Texas, Illinois, and Idaho.
No art experience or background is needed

A Note for Loved Ones & Family Members
If you are a spouse, adult child, sibling, or close friend of someone experiencing early-onset Alzheimer's or mild cognitive impairment — thank you for being here. Finding the right support for someone you love takes time, care, and a great deal of love.
Here is what we want you to know:
This service centers your loved one. They are the client, and their comfort, preferences, and dignity guide every session. Essence is trained to communicate in ways that are clear, calm, and affirming — adapting to where your loved one is on any given day.
You can help with the intake process. If your loved one would benefit from support completing the intake form, you are welcome to fill it out together or on their behalf. Simply note in the form that you are reaching out for a family member, and include any relevant context about their diagnosis, personality, and what they enjoy.
Early is the right time. Art therapy is most impactful when started in the early stages, while your loved one still has strong capacity for engagement, communication, and creative participation. If you've been wondering whether now is the right time — it is.
You don't have to have it figured out. Reach out with whatever information you have, and Essence will help you determine whether this is the right fit and answer any questions you have before any commitment is made.
